I’ve studied history and philosophy for a long time, and I recently decided that I would start up a WordPress blog in order to get some of my ideas out there. Of course, simply starting a blog wasn’t enough for me to get my work noticed, as no one will read your blog if they don’t know it exists.
There were a number of steps that I took in order to make my blog successful and even monetize it. What are the most important things that I did to accomplish this goal? Well, here are just a few of them.
Promotion, Promotion, Promotion
With social media, we are all given an extremely useful, and free, promotion tool. While you often have a limited reach on social media platforms initially, the more that your writings get shared, the less limited your reach is.
For instance, when I share a blog post and my friends share it, then their friends share it, and so on, the reach of my blog becomes nearly infinite.
While there are other ways to promote your blog, mastering the promotion of it on social media platforms is an important first step.
Making My Blog Look Nice
WordPress offers a number of ways to make your blog look good. The site itself offers you different templates that you can use for free, or you can pay them in order to get access to premium apps and plugins.
What many people don’t consider, however, are the third-party plugins that are also available to everyone. Some of these are free and others are paid, and so you will find that there is a difference in quality between them.
I found some really good plugins from third-party sites that helped me to make my blog look exactly how I wanted it to look. By using these tools, I was able to present my writings in eye-popping ways.
Finding My Target Audience
While social media is a great promotional tool, it also requires a little bit of work. I needed to find an audience that was interested in history and philosophy. In order to do this, I joined some different philosophy groups on social media sites and shared my content there.
Monetizing My Blog
You can monetize your blog directly through WordPress. When you do this, you will be paid for the ad revenue that your site brings in.
In order to be successful at generating ad revenue, you will first need a large enough audience. In the meantime, and even after you have lots of viewers, setting up links for donations on your site is another good way to earn some money.
Sharing is Caring, So Make Sharing Easy
The third-party plugins I use make it easy for me to have “share” links for all of the major social media sites. All my readers have to do is click these links and the post will immediately be shared, which makes growing my reach a whole lot easier.
